Old Man Brett, at it Again…
This week’s Denver (3-4) - Green Bay (6-1) game was anticipated for an upset. Young phenom, Jay Cutler, marched his team down the field with 2:27 left on the clock, starting from his own 7. He fell just short of the endzone, and with no timeouts and the clock running down, he had to scramble off the field to set up a 21 yard field goal by a cool, calm, and collective Jason Elam.
Unable to get the win in regulation, the captains set off towards center-field for the coin toss.
Green Bay won the toss. That’s all that Favre needed.
Brett threw a bomb for 82 yards down the sideline for six.
It was the second longest TD pass in overtime, second only to Ron “Jaws” Jaworski’s 99 yard throw to Mike Quick in 1985, who, coincidentally, said that Favre didn’t have the same arm strength as he used to.
Favre threw not only a perfect longball for the game-winner, but also a 79 yarder to James Jones in sync.
Brett threw for 331 yards, 2 TD’s, and a nearly flawless QB rating: 142.4 points.
He didn’t do this against any average joes either. Donald Driver and Greg Jennings were covered by two of the best cornerbacks in the league, consisting of hard nosed Dre Bly, and veteran Champ Bailey.
Another memorable game to add to Brett Favre’s long list…
